Stained-glass windows in Sarthe
19ᵗʰ-21ˢᵗ centuries
23 january - 31 october 2026

The exhibition invites visitors to discover religious and civil stained-glass windows in the Sarthe department from the middle of the 19ᵗʰ century to the present day.
Sketches, drawings, tools, samples, test panels and original stained-glass windows are exceptionally brought together here to tell this story and illustrate the astonishing creativity of the artists and master glassmakers who have worked in the region over the last two and a half centuries.
The Sarthe department is a major representative of this art form, not only thanks to the remarkable collection of medieval stained-glass windows preserved in Saint-Julien Cathedral, but also thanks to the special role played by Le Mans in the revival of this artistic practice in the 19ᵗʰ century.
